Rosulate herb, probably annual, forming colonies. Leaves linear to narrowly subulate, much shorter than scapes, 4–8 cm long, 2–4 mm wide, spongy, outwardly curving, tapering to an obtuse tip with apical pore. Scapes 3–8, slender, 15–45 cm high, 0.6–0.8 mm in diam., 5–ribbed. Sheaths equalling the leaves, obliquely slit . Capitulum white speckled with black anthers, 5–7 mm high, 6.5–8 mm wide, hemispherical becoming depressed–globose with intruded base at maturity. Involucral bracts shorter than capitulum width, in 2 or 3 series, 2.7–3.0 × 1.5–2.5 mm, obovate, straw–coloured, subcoriaceous with rounded, splitting, scarious margin, glabrous, reflexing at maturity. Floral bracts pallid, scarious, cuneate–spathulate, concave, acute to cuspidate, 2.5 × 1.2–1.5 mm, white–villous on widest part. Receptacle sparsely pilose. Flowers 3–3.5 mm, trimerous, subsessile. Male flowers: sepals pallid, cuneate, laterals keeled, median flat, tips truncate, white–villous along top margin and at upper back, almost free or two partially connate or all connate and spathe–like except free tips; petals unequal, glandular and white–villous, largest ca. 2.3 × 1.0 mm, exserted from calyx; anthers 6, black, 0.25 mm. Female flowers: sepals subequal, pallid, oblanceolate–oblong, 2.0–2.4 × 0.5–0.6 mm, laterals lightly keeled, median almost flat, unwinged, truncate, white–villous towards tip; petals unequal, spathulate, white–villous on inner face except towards narrowed base, glandular at upper 1/4, median petal 3 × 0.7 mm, lateral petals 2.5 × 0.5 mm, tips entire. Seeds broadly ellipsoid, chestnut brown with white–papillose reticulations.
